Answering the deep questions

Where does our life come from?

You might be thinking, “Whoa! Wait a minute. The last post was “What is the truth?” Now you’re asking, “Where does our life come from?” That’s pretty deep! Are you always going to deal with these hard questions?!!!”

Bear with me. This is really important, and I’ll walk you through it carefully without too much Hebrew and Greek. ;-)

Where does our life come from? Our spirit or soul? Here the three part man is described again:

Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.~Genesis 2:7

We know that “dust from the ground” means body. The phrase, “A living being”, is from the Hebrew: lenefesh, which means soul. We’ll talk more about the soul later. That leaves “the breath of life”. The Hebrew is Nasham meaning breath, and Chayah meaning life, but see how closely it resembles the definition for the Hebrew word for spirit: Ruach which means-breath, life, spirit. http://biblehub.com/lexicon/genesis/2-7.htm

I love this article by Gordon Robertson: http://www1.cbn.com/700club/holy-spirit-breath-god

For right now, I’ll just quote a part of it.

“The Hebrew word behind spirit is ruach, and it means "air in motion." It is the same word for "breath." It also means "life." By resemblance to breath and air in motion, it means "spirit." That’s where we get the translation, and the Hebrew word contains all those different meanings.”

So, our life comes from our spirit.

Romans 8:11 He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Isn’t that beautiful? Our bodies will receive life through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. That is, if we’ve received His Spirit. We are born with a spirit that is separated from God. Because Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, all of their progeny have that defective spirit. God offers to replace that defective spirit with His Spirit. All we have to do is admit that our spirit is defective and that we need Him, believe by faith that God has given us His Spirit, and confess that His Spirit is our life! So simple. But it changes us from the inside out.

Now that we know that life comes from the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, how do we access that life? How do we change from the inside out? Like I said in my first post, it doesn’t seem to happen automatically. In order to “unlock” the gift of life, we need to talk about our soul.
